Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain on Tuesday said that although the Moghbazar branch of Ad-Din Hospital’s operating license had been revoked, the institution’s other branches may continue their operations without interruption.
The minister made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at the inauguration program of the Clinical Management Guidelines for Measles Treatment Protocol at Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
Not only the pathology unit, but the entire license of Ad-Din Hospital’s Moghbazar branch has been cancelled. However, if Ad-Din Hospital has other branches, there is no obstacle to their continued operations, he said.
Referring to the deaths of six children at the hospital, the minister said that the fatalities occurred due to a lack of oxygen in an enclosed room and described the incident as a result of negligence by doctors, nurses, and the hospital authorities.
The responsibility for the deaths of the six children must be borne by the hospital authorities, he said adding that as punishment for this offence, the hospital’s registration had been cancelled.
The minister further warned that no individual or institution would be allowed to evade accountability for wrongdoing.
“If anyone commits an offence, there is no opportunity to escape punishment by defying the government,” he added.
The government had recently revoked the license of Ad-Din Hospital’s Moghbazar branch following investigations into the deaths of six children, an incident that sparked public concern and scrutiny over healthcare standards and patient safety.
