Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, on Thursday called on the Special Security Force (SSF) to maintain a balance between ensuring the security of the head of government and preserving his close connection with people, saying public trust and affection remain his greatest source of strength.

Speaking at a programme marking the 40th founding anniversary of the SSF at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, he said security arrangements should not create barriers between elected leaders and the citizens they serve.
“As head of government, my greatest reliance is on the trust and love of the people,” he said. “Therefore, I urge the SSF, as a sophisticated and professional force, to ensure that the security cordon does not push the Prime Minister away from the people,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that modern security challenges have become increasingly complex due to changing socio-economic, political and geopolitical realities, as well as rapid technological advancements.
In this context, he stressed the importance of continuous training, professional excellence and the adoption of modern security strategies.
Tarique Rahman said the SSF often faces the difficult task of ensuring the Prime Minister’s safety during large public gatherings and state programmes while also maintaining normal civic life and public convenience.
He praised the force for carrying out its duties efficiently under these circumstances and reiterated the importance of striking a balance between security requirements and democratic accessibility.
The Prime Minister also urged SSF personnel to remain respectful towards ordinary citizens while performing their duties.
“While giving the highest priority to the security of important personalities, you must remain vigilant so that members of the public do not become victims of misconduct,” he said.
Highlighting the values expected of the elite security force, Tarique Rahman stressed professionalism, discipline, integrity, loyalty and adherence to the chain of command.
He also underscored the importance of coordination among security agencies, intelligence services and government institutions to strengthen national security.
The PM expressed hope that SSF members willbcontinue to discharge their responsibilities with patriotism, professionalism and respect for democratic norms, reports UNB.
