4 more measles death in 24-hr

Four more children died with symptoms of measles across Bangladesh in the 24 hours until 8am on Friday, while 1,174 new cases of measles and measles-like illness were registered, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest deaths have pushed the overall death toll to 670. Of the  fatalities, 577 children died with measles symptoms, while 93 deaths were confirmed as resulting from measles infection, the DGHS said in its daily update released on Friday.

Of the four children, two were from Sylhet division and one each from Dhaka and Chattogram. 
During this time, 972 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide. Dhaka division recorded the highest number of admissions at 361, followed by Chattogram with 216 and Barishal with 132.

Meanwhile, 893 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the disease.
Bangladesh identified its first measles patient of the current outbreak on March 15. Over the last 96 days,  90,982 people developed measles or measles-like symptoms, according to DGHS data.

Of them, 75,156 patients have been hospitalised, while laboratory tests confirmed measles infection in 10,869 cases. So far, 71,396 patients have recovered, and were discharged from hospitals.
