DPE tightens oversight of teachers’ online conduct

The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has taken a firm stance against what it described as derogatory remarks, propaganda and objectionable content posted on social media targeting the government, its institutions and official decisions.

The authority has instructed field-level offices to identify government primary school teachers allegedly involved in such activities and initiate departmental proceedings without delay.

The directive was issued on Thursday by the Administration Branch of the DPE.
According to the circular, all government employees are required to comply with the "Guidelines for the Use of Social Media in Government Institutions-2019 (Revised Edition)", formulated by the Cabinet Division, while using digital platforms.

The DPE said some primary school teachers have recently posted comments on social media that allegedly violate these guidelines and are, in the view of the authorities, damaging the image of the primary education system, public institutions and the government.

It further stated that posting or sharing "insulting, misleading, false or objectionable content" against the government, its departments or official decisions constitutes a violation of the government service code of conduct and will be treated as misconduct under the Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

In line with instructions from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, monitoring committees at divisional, district and upazila levels have been directed to intensify supervision of teachers' online activity.
