PM begins twin visit to Malaysia, China Sunday

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s twin visit to Malaysia and China is set to begin on Sunday (June 21) that represents a strategic diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s economic partnerships, attracting foreign investment, and enhancing connectivity.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam told reproters at a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday morning, reports UNB.

From Kuala Lumpur, the Prime Minister will leave for China on Monday afternoon.

He will be visiting China at the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

This is going to be first trip abroad by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman since his government assumed office in February this year.

During the official visit to China the Prime Minister will attend The World Economic Forum’s 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (2026 Summer Davos Forum).

The World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos forum, will be held in the port city of Dalian, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, from June 23 to 25, organizers said Tuesday.

More than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries and regions will attend the meeting, and preparations for the event are largely complete, an event spokesperson said at a press conference.

This year's meeting, themed "Innovating at Scale," will feature discussions on topics including the next phase of China's economic trajectory and how to translate technological advances into real economic benefits.

Apart from Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting with the Chinese Premier on June 25, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 26.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to return home on Friday night.

The Malaysia leg of the tour is expected to focus on expanding trade, labour market cooperation, and investment opportunities, while the China visit underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening cooperation under key infrastructure, technology, and development frameworks.

Bangladesg seeks to diversify Bangladesh’s international partnerships, reinforce its position in regional supply chains, and advance the country’s long-term development agenda amid evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics.
