A motorcyclist, who was seriously injured after being hit by a brick on the head in capital’s Mirpur 13 days back, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Deceased Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, 21, died in the morning while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station Md Sazzad Hossain confirmed his demise.
The OC said Rafi was returning home riding on a motorcycle through East Shewrapara of Mirpur at around 1:15am on 9 June. At that time, a man signalled him to stop. As Rafi did not stop his bike, another individual threw a brick on him, which directly hit Rafi’s head, leaving him critically injured.
Injured Rafi was then taken to hospital. Later on, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.
Police, however, arrested three persons in this connection.
The arrested are: Md Parvez, Faisal alias Kalu and Anwar Hossain Babu.
CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media, initially leading many to believe it was a motorcycle robbery attempt. Police also initially investigated it from that angle. However, the investigation later revealed a different picture. After analysing the CCTV footage, police found that the attackers were known to the victim.
On the day of the incident, as Rafi was riding alone, accused Kalu, Parvez and some of their associates were present in the area. Taking advantage of his being alone, Kalu attempted to stop him. When he failed, Parvez struck Rafi on the head with a brick.
