6 more die of measles

Six more children died with symptoms of measles across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing Bangladesh's combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 708, although no laboratory-confirmed measles deaths were reported during the period.

The information was disclosed in the latest measles situation report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.

According to the report, the six children who died had exhibited symptoms consistent with measles, but none of the deaths was confirmed through laboratory testing. Four of the six children died in Mymensingh. In addition, two children died in Dhaka and Khulna.

DGHS data show that since March 15, a total of 615 children have died with suspected measles symptoms, while 93 children have died after their infections were confirmed through laboratory tests. The combined death toll from confirmed and suspected measles cases has now risen to 708.

During the last 24 hours, laboratory tests confirmed measles infection in 45 children, while 744 others received treatment after developing symptoms of the disease.
