The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced special security measures at big-screen football World Cup viewing venues across the capital after a clash of supporters over Brazil's victory turned deadly in Adabar.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday after the arrest of four suspects, Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam said both local police stations and DB teams had been instructed to monitor public football screenings to prevent further violence. The DB official said around 50 big-screen football World Cup viewing venues including Dhaka University, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Uttara and many places in Puran Dhaka etc.

The move follows the killing of Md. Abul Bashar Badsha, a local BNP unit general secretary, in Adabar on Wednesday night. According to police, the violence began on Monday after Brazil's World Cup victory over Japan. A group of local teenagers celebrated the win by playing drums and whistles. During the celebration, a man identified as Habib allegedly assaulted a youth named Nirob, triggering a dispute that later escalated into the fatal attack.

DB officials said four suspects"Nirob, Ripon, Majnu and Mizanur Rahman"were arrested from Mymensingh on Thursday. Police said Ripon allegedly stabbed the victim and the knife used in the killing has been recovered.

The incident also left the local BNP unit president seriously injured. He is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The police then requested that fans keep their celebrations joyful and not let them turn into tragedy. We should respect each other's opinions and support our teams with tolerance.
