Eight examinees from Abdulpur Government College in Lalpur upazila of Natore district have been allowed to sit for HSC examinations following a swift intervention from the education minister.
Their participation had remained uncertain after they failed to receive admit cards despite paying the required registration fees.
The incident came to light after it was widely reported in the media on Thursday. Immediately after knowing the matter, Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon contacted Prof. Dr. Shamim Ara Chowdhury, Chairman of the Rajshahi Education Board, and instructed her to take necessary steps to ensure their exams.
Amit Kumar Sarkar, an office assistant at the college, collected the examination registration fees from these students but failed to deposit the money properly. So, they did not receive their admit cards and were unable to appear for the exams began from Thursday.
The minister ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and directed authorities to take strict legal and departmental action against those responsible.
The Rajshahi Education Board completed the students' registration on Friday, enabling them to sit for the exams from Saturday.
The accused office assistant, Amit Kumar Sarkar, was arrested and is now in custody, with a case being processed. A three-member committee headed by Abdullah Al Mahmud of Abdulpur Government College has been formed.
Meanwhile, the minister also addressed a separate complaint from Sariakandi in Bogura, where an HSC candidate was unable to sit for exams due to an incorrect registration number. Officials were instructed to correct the issue, and the student's registration has been completed, allowing him to appear from Saturday.
