A cocktail explosion at a rally of National Citizen Party (NCP)’s march in Savar left at least two people injured.
The incident took place at around 9:45pm on Monday, July 6, 2026, during the rally at Savar Thana Stand Eidgah Ground.
Eyewitnesses said that at the time, Dhaka District NCP Convener Engineer Nabila Tasnid was delivering her speech. The sound of the explosion suddenly triggered panic at the rally venue, causing party leaders and activists to run in different directions. Later, Nabila Tasnid urged everyone to remain calm over the microphone.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, and other central leaders of the party were present at the rally.
The party said that the injured were admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital.
NCP Central Member Yasir Arafat claimed that miscreants hurled a cocktail targeting the rally. In protest against the incident, party leaders and activists immediately brought out a protest march led by Nahid Islam. They later took position in front of Savar Model Police Station.
Regarding the incident, Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Noor Mohammad said, “We are at the scene. We are investigating what kind of explosion occurred. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.”
