Announcement about closing the Strait of Hormuz once again has sparked global unrest as a vessel was stopped with warning shots by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
AFP disclosed this information on Sunday, citing Iranian state media.
The IRGC statement noted that the vessel did not use the designated maritime route despite repeated instructions. Later, it was stopped by warning shots.
Until US intervention in this region ends, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed. No vessel will be allowed to travel through the strait during this period.
The IRGC further warned that if new military operations are launched against them, new enemy (US) bases in the region will be targeted.
Notably, the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes. About 20 percent of the global crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade is transported through this route. Consequently, any disruption in this strait could have a major impact on the international energy market.
