Testimony from 15 witnesses has been completed in the corruption case filed against former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed over allegations of amassing more than Tk 11 crore in illegal wealth.
The case was scheduled for hearing on Thursday at Dhaka Special Judge Court-5. During the proceedings, Md Faisal Kabir, assistant director (technical) of the BTMC Textile Directorate, testified before the court.
As the accused remains absconding, the defence could not cross-examine the witnesses. The court fixed August 17 for the next hearing.
According to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, 15 of the 28 prosecution witnesses have testified since charges were framed on May 3, formally opening the trial.
