A Dhaka court on Thursday denied bail to former EXIM Bank Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder in a corruption case involving the alleged embezzlement of Tk 857.93 crore.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after hearing arguments from both sides. Defence lawyers, led by Kamrul Islam, sought bail, while the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) opposed the plea.
The ACC filed the case on August 18, 2024, against 21 people, alleging that Nazrul abused his position to approve an illegal loan in the name of Madina Dates and Nuts, enabling the embezzlement and laundering of Tk 857.93 crore.
