Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed his government's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment to attract greater foreign direct investment (FDI), pledging comprehensive policy and institutional support for both local and international investors.

Addressing the FICCI FDI Conference 2026 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in Dhaka on Thursday, the Prime Minister said the government would ensure timely policies, regulatory reforms and all necessary assistance to facilitate investment in Bangladesh.

The conference, organized by the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) under the theme "Accelerating Foreign Investment for Employment and Prosperity in Bangladesh," brought together policymakers, business leaders and development partners.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the significant contribution of foreign investors to Bangladesh's economic growth through job creation, technology transfer and integration into global supply chains. He expressed gratitude to both domestic and international investors for their continued confidence in the country's economy.

Recalling his own experience in business before entering politics, Tarique Rahman said an entrepreneur's success depends not only on individual capability but also on a government's growth-oriented policies.

He said the new BNP-led government is committed to building a rules-based, globally connected and private sector-driven economy. Inviting investors to become partners in Bangladesh's economic transformation, he stressed that the government had completed extensive policy preparations before assuming office through consultations with investors, entrepreneurs, economists, business leaders and development partners.

According to the Prime Minister, the government's reform agenda includes strengthening legal protection for investments, modernizing the regulatory framework, simplifying tax administration, facilitating profit repatriation, developing the capital market and improving infrastructure.

He said the administration is also working to modernize legal and regulatory systems, enhance investment protection, ensure faster dispute resolution, simplify tax and VAT administration, ease capital repatriation, promote startups, reduce bureaucratic red tape and expand digital public services. Renewable energy, port and logistics development, and energy security have also been identified as priority areas.

Tarique Rahman reiterated the government's target of transforming Bangladesh into a US$1 trillion economy by 2034. To achieve this goal, special incentives are being offered for renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, electronics, digital services, agro-processing, advanced textiles, healthcare and logistics. The government is also prioritizing diversification of the ready-made garment sector, development of skilled human resources and positioning Bangladesh as a global manufacturing hub.

Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh's future depends not only on attracting investment but also on building long-term, trustworthy partnerships. He invited investors from around the world to become part of the country's journey toward sustainable growth and prosperity.
