Injured CJP protester disputes police denial of pellet gun use

A protester injured during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) march in New Delhi has claimed he was hit by pellets after seeing a security personnel point a pellet gun at him, contradicting Delhi Police's denial that such weapons were used.

The 28-year-old, who was injured during the July 20 protest demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak, he suffered around 30 pellet wounds, reports NDTV.

According to the report, his case sheet at Safdarjung Hospital recorded pellet injuries, including darkened skin around the wounds, pellet fragments lodged in the skin and tenderness at the impact sites.

The protester said security personnel initially fired tear gas into the air before aiming directly at demonstrators.

"I saw a policeman pointing his pellet gun at me. I ran, and the pellets hit my back and hand," he told NDTV, adding that he could not confirm whether the person was from the Delhi Police or the Rapid Action Force (RAF).

Delhi Police has denied using pellet guns during the protest, saying its personnel neither possess nor use such weapons and urged the public not to circulate unverified information.

The Rapid Action Force, which was also deployed at the protest site, has not commented on the allegation.

The All India Students' Association (AISA) has alleged that pellet guns were used against protesters and claimed at least three people sustained pellet injuries.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has sought responses from the central government and Delhi Police on two petitions alleging excessive use of force during the July 20 march to Parliament.
