Saudi air defences intercept two missiles fired from Yemen

Saudi Arabia's air defence system intercepted two missiles fired from Yemen on Saturday.

Reuters, citing a Greek security source who requested anonymity, said the missiles were aimed at oil refineries in the western city of Yanbu but were successfully shot down by Saudi air defences.

The attack came after Yemen's Houthi movement vowed earlier this week to retaliate against Saudi strikes. Authorities issued alerts in the cities of Jizan and Yanbu following the threat.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that Saudi-led coalition forces carried out overnight strikes on telecommunications facilities in Houthi-controlled areas on Friday. The broadcaster also said a woman was injured in an attack on Kamaran Island.

Witnesses told Reuters that explosions were heard at the Red Sea port of Hodeidah. However, the Saudi-led coalition denied targeting the port.

Hodeidah is a vital entry point for commercial goods and humanitarian aid into Houthi-controlled northern Yemen.

Saudi-led coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki blamed the Houthis for escalating tensions, condemning the group's attacks on ships in the Red Sea as "cowardly" and "reckless."

In a statement, Al-Maliki said the coalition would continue to take all necessary operational measures and would respond firmly if the Houthis persisted with hostile actions.
