Lawyer chopped dead in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, July 25: Miscreants allegedly stabbed a lawyer to death in the Harikhali Tetultala area of the town early Saturday. 

The deceased Nizam Uddin Shanto, 42, was the son of Torab Ali of Paschimbhag Village of Gotapara Union in Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. He was a former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, a member of the Bagerhat District Lawyers Association and was working as an APP. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station Shamsul Arefin said that on his way home from his chamber on a motorcycle at about 1 am on Saturday, the deceased was stabbed by a group of miscreants in the Harikhali Tetultala area. Later, locals rescued him and took him to the hospital, where the doctors on duty declared him dead. On information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

“The police have not yet been able to confirm who killed the lawyer and why,” the OC added.
