Gas supply to normalise soon: State Minister

 
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindo Islam Amit on Saturday said gas supply would return to normal soon as the government was working to resolve the temporary disruption caused by a technical fault.

"Gas supply will return to normal soon, and pressure at power plants, industries, households and CNG filling stations will gradually improve," he said.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting titled "Prevention of Rumours and Misinformation through Social Media" as the chief guest at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room in Jashore.

Explaining the current gas supply situation, he said imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) is converted into gas through the country's two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) before being supplied to the national grid.

He said the gas is essential for operating power plants and industries as well as meeting household cooking needs, particularly in the capital.

The state minister said one of the FSRUs had developed a technical fault and that a private company and Petrobangla were working together to repair it. The Energy Division was monitoring the situation round the clock, he added.

Speaking at the programme, Anindo Islam Amit emphasised the importance of moral education in curbing the spread of rumours and misinformation on social media.
