'Terrorist' arrested with foreign-made pistol in Jashore

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 members on Saturday night arrested a man in Jashore with a foreign-made pistol.

The arrested man is Shahadat Hossain

The operation was conducted at around 8:30PM  at his residence on Barek Road in the Chopdarpara area of Shankarpur. During the raid, RAB personnel detained Shahadat and recovered the firearm.

According to a press release issued by RAB-6, the raid was carried out based on confidential information. After arresting Shahadat, members of the elite force searched the house and recovered a foreign-made pistol from beneath an overturned plastic barrel in front of the room. 

During preliminary quizzing, Shahadat reportedly admitted that the recovered pistol had been brought into Bangladesh from India.

RAB said it had prior intelligence indicating that Shahadat had long been involved in the illegal arms trade. He owns a welding workshop beside the Shankarpur railway line, and investigators are now looking into whether the workshop was secretly used to manufacture illegal firearms.
