The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday removed from its cause list a petition seeking to bar BNP lawmaker Sarwar Alamgir from performing his duties as a Member of Parliament for the Chattogram-2 constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
Now, there is no legal bar to his continuing to serve as an MP, said Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal.
The order was issued by a bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.
The apex court also asked the petitioner to file a regular appeal against the High Court verdict that had declared Sarwar Alamgir's candidacy for the 13th parliamentary election in Chattogram-2 valid.
