GOPALGANJ, Aug 2: The Gopalganj Heart Foundation will begin operation soon, Gopalganj-1 MP Selimuzzaman Selim said on Saturday, expressing hope that the facility would significantly improve access to specialised cardiac care for people in the region.
The lawmaker made the remarks while visiting the proposed site of the foundation in Kashiani Upazila, where he reviewed the project's overall progress, infrastructure preparations and future operational plans.
During the visit, Selim held discussions with officials concerned and directed them to expedite the remaining work so that the foundation could start functioning as early as possible.
"The work on the Gopalganj Heart Foundation will be accelerated, and necessary steps are being taken to launch its services soon," he said.
"Once operational, the foundation will provide much-needed cardiac treatment not only to the people of Gopalganj but also to residents of neighbouring districts," he added.
The MP said many heart patients from the region currently have to travel to Dhaka and other parts of the country for advanced treatment, resulting in additional costs, delays and hardship for both patients and their families.
He said establishing specialised cardiac care at the local level would substantially reduce those difficulties while ensuring quicker access to treatment.
Selim also said efforts were underway to develop the Gopalganj Heart Foundation into a modern, patient-friendly healthcare institution through coordinated initiatives involving the relevant authorities. Necessary preparations are being completed to make the facility operational at the earliest, he added.
