Government has formed district-level committees to formulate recommendations regarding the withdrawal of politically motivated harassment cases.
Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification detailing the committee structure, scope of work and operational procedure.
The notification stated, District Magistrate of the respective districts will be serving as the chair of the said committee. The Superintendent of Police and the Public Prosecutor will serve as members, while additional District Magistrate will act as the member-secretary.
In case of metropolitan areas, Deputy Commissioner of police will serve instead of the SI of police and the Metropolitan Public Prosecutor will replace the Public Prosecutor.
Moreover, kinsmen can apply to the District Magistrate on behalf of the accused for the withdrawal of politically motivated cases.
Attested photocopies of all relevant court documents, certified by a lawyer, must be submitted along with the application.
Furthermore, with the issuance of this new notification, the Home Ministry's previous notification issued on May 21, 2026, stands canceled. The notification will come into effect immediately.
