National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary appeared with a bandage over one eye before delivering his speech on Monday, staging a symbolic protest against the attack that left NCP’s student wing organizer Alif Chowdhury seriously injured in Habiganj.

Patwary took part in the symbolic protest at a discussion meeting titled “The People’s One-Point Demand through the Voices of Martyrs’ Families and the Injured” held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in the capital.

Before his speech, Patwary’s name was announced from the stage. He then briefly went behind the stage and returned about a minute later with his eye covered with a bandage. He addressed the gathering wearing the bandage, expressing solidarity with Alif Chowdhury, who suffered a severe eye injury during an attack in Habiganj.

During his speech, Patwary said, “It is written here: return Alif’s eye. Can you return it? From where will you give it back? You do not have your own eyes. If you had eyes, wouldn’t you have seen Alif’s tears? Wouldn’t you have arranged his treatment?”

Alif Chowdhury, an HSC examinee and organizer of the NCP’s student wing Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, was seriously injured in one eye during an attack on an NCP programme in Habiganj, according to party sources.
