Laxmipur JCD paints July Uprising graffiti to honour martyrs

LAXMIPUR, Aug 3: Leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) launched a graffiti campaign in Laxmipur on Monday to commemorate those killed during the July-August 2024 mass uprising.

The programme began in the morning at Laxmipur Government College, where participants painted graffiti on walls across the campus. JCD leaders said similar programmes would be held in educational institutions across the district in phases.

Among those present were District JCD Convener Abul Barakat Saurav, Member Secretary Hasibur Rahman Abhi, Laxmipur Government College JCD President Ismail Hossain Rony, General Secretary Bahadur Hossain Nobel, Organising Secretary Mehedi Hasan Nirab, Municipal JCD Member Secretary Yasin Babul, and Senior Joint Convener Arman Hossain Kiron.

The campaign drew participation from JCD leaders and activists as well as school and college students and passers-by.

JCD leaders said the graffiti campaign was also carried out at Laxmipur Adarsha Samad Government High School, Laxmipur Government Women's College and Kafil Uddin Degree College, among other educational institutions in the district.

They said the organisation has consistently upheld the spirit of the July movement and that many of its leaders and activists were killed or permanently injured during the protests. The graffiti campaign, they added, was organised to honour the martyrs, preserve the memory of the movement and pray for the departed souls.
