Trump says Strait of Hormuz deal could come as early as Wednesday

President Donald Trump said a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be reached as early as Wednesday.
The statement comes as Iran and Oman advanced toward an agreement to restore traffic in the critical waterway. Yahoo News confirmed.
Speaking to reporters in California on Tuesday evening, Trump responded to a report by news site Axios regarding an imminent announcement on the maritime deal. "It could happen. Tomorrow or the next day," Trump said. He added that significant progress had been made in ongoing discussions.
Following news of a potential breakthrough, global oil prices eased on Wednesday. International benchmark Brent crude slipped 1.2 per cent to $78.43 per barrel in early trading.
Regional officials familiar with the talks told The Associated Press that the draft framework involves entry into the Persian Gulf via an Iranian-controlled route and exit through an Omani-controlled route. The plan includes charging service fees to provide security and protect the maritime environment.
Trump reiterated his opposition to toll charges earlier this week, stating the US would respond with its own fees if any party imposed charges. Regional officials noted that negotiations remain ongoing and any final deal would be linked to lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged progress in the talks but stated a final agreement had not yet been reached. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also expressed optimism, noting a deal could be finalized shortly to normalize regional shipping.
Iran has denied direct talks with Washington, clarifying that its negotiations are taking place strictly through Oman. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed discussions focus on creating safe shipping lanes while protecting national security considerations.
