A couple riding a motorcycle was killed and their grandchild injured after being hit by a private car on the Bogura-Naogaon regional highway in the Erulia Airport area of Bogura Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon (August 7).
The deceased were identified as Babul Hasan, 50, a local gold merchant, and his wife Jasmine Bibi, residents of the Atapara area in Bogura city.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ibrahim Ali confirmed the incident to reporters.
Police said Babul Hasan was riding a motorcycle toward Naogaon carrying sweet packets, accompanied by his wife and minor granddaughter. At around 4:30PM, a private car traveling in the same direction lost control and hit the motorcycle from behind.
Babul Hasan died on the spot. Local residents rescued Jasmine Bibi and the grandchild, rushing them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH), where the duty doctor declared Jasmine dead upon arrival. The injured granddaughter is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Police seized the private car involved in the collision, though the driver fled the scene immediately following the crash. OC Ibrahim Ali added that legal procedures regarding the incident are underway.
The fatal crash occurred just hours after a separate, deadly road accident took place in the same Erulia area earlier Friday morning, where a speeding passenger bus lost control and ran over a group of roadside day-labourers, claiming seven lives.
