Bus-Leguna Collision leaves four dead in Cox’s Bazer

Four passengers were killed and five others injured after a bus collided head-on with a leguna coming from the opposite direction in Chakaria on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway.
The accident occurred at around 6:30am on Thursday (August 13) in front of Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Nayapara area of Khutakhali Union under Chakaria upazila.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Jasim Uddin, 25, son of late Matiur Rahman of Segun Bagicha village in Ward No. 6 of Khutakhali Union; Mohammad Shahed, 27, son of late Manjur Alam of Shia Para in Fulchhari, Khutakhali; Mohammad Jiabul Haque, 25, son of Aminul Haque of New Office area in Khutakhali; and Mohammad Rafique, 28, son of late Abul Kashem of West Gajaria area in neighbouring Eidgaon upazila.
Malumghat Highway Police said heavy rain had been falling since early Thursday. At that time, a passenger AC bus of Lal Sabuj Paribahan, travelling from Dhaka, reached the area in front of Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Nayapara, where it collided head-on with a passenger leguna travelling from Eidgaon towards Chakaria.
Locals quickly rescued the injured after the accident and took them to the nearby Malumghat Memorial Christian Hospital, where one of them died.
The remaining injured passengers were later taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Three more passengers died there while undergoing treatment around noon. The five injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, highway police said.

The two damaged vehicles were removed from the highway using a crane, and traffic returned to normal about an hour later.
He added that the bodies would be handed over to the families after completion of the necessary legal procedures.
