Bomb scare in Meherpur, turned out to be Sheikh Mujib’s speech!

Bomb panic spread across Meherpur of Khulna on Saturday morning after bomb-like objects were seen wired to electric poles in several areas.

However, police assured the public that the recovered items were not explosives rather sound boxes playing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic speech. 

Three objects were recovered around 9:30AM from near Meherpur University, Court Mor, and Dr Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Park.

Local residents first spotted a box-shaped object attached to electric wires near Meherpur University. The sight triggered panic among locals, drawing a large crowd to the spot.

Upon receiving information, a team from Meherpur Sadar Police Station reached the scene. With the help of locals, police removed the box and immersed it in a bucket of water. They later cut the connected wires and opened the box, discovering it was merely a sound box.

Shortly after, reports came in about two more similar objects tied to electric poles near Court Mor and Dr Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Park. Police immediately rushed to the spots and recovered them.

Pedestrians said the box near the park started playing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic speech around 9:15AM. Police quickly arrived and brought the box down. All three objects were taken to the police station.

Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said there was no need to panic as the items were not explosives.

"The objects have been recovered and taken to the police station. Investigations are under way to identify those responsible, and legal action will be taken soon," the OC added.
