Popular folk singer and composer Mujib Pardeshi has been shown arrested in another cheque dishonour case involving Tk 440,000.

Dhaka’s Fifth Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sadik Ahmed passed the order on Tuesday following a petition by the complainant and sent the singer to jail.

According to the case records, Pardeshi was sentenced in 2007 to one year’s simple imprisonment and fined Tk 880,000 in the case. The complainant was to receive Tk 500,000, while Tk 380,000 was to be deposited with the state treasury.

The case was filed in 2004 after Pardeshi allegedly took Tk 440,000 from the complainant, promising to send his younger brother to England. He allegedly later issued two cheques for Tk 220,000 each to refund the money, but both were dishonoured due to insufficient funds.

Pardeshi was previously sent to jail on August 4 in another Tk 1 million cheque dishonour case. In that case, a Magura court sentenced him in 2023 to one year’s rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 1 million.
Pardeshi, whose real name is Mujibur Rahman Molla, rose to popularity through Bangla folk music in the 1980s.
