Farmers protest over canal, road woes at Gauripur

GOURIPUR, M’SINGH, Aug 19: Gauripur Upazila Krishak Samity on Wednesday held a protest rally and submitted a memorandum demanding re-excavation of Satisha Canal and paving of a dirt road in Naogaon Village.

The organisation brought out a procession in the municipal town. It paraded different streets before ending at the Amtala area on the Upazila Parishad premises, where a rally was held.

Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum through Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afia Amin Pappa to State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Engineer M Iqbal Hossain.

The rally was chaired by Gauripur Krishak Samity President Mujibur Rahman Fakir. Its General Secretary Riazul Hasnat moderated the programme. Speakers included Mymensingh district Krishak Samity General Secretary Motahar Hossain, Organising Secretary Nuruzzaman and other leaders.

UNO Afia Amin Pappa said the municipality had been instructed to clean the canal. She added that the memorandum would be forwarded to the minister for necessary action.
