Two children drown while picking water lilies in Jashore

Two children drowned while picking water lilies from a baor in Manirampur of Jashore on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 12:00 PM at Parkhajura Baor in Hajrakati village under Mashwimnagar Union.

The deceased were Mosammat Yasmin, 6, daughter of Aliar Rahman, and Md Jisan, 10, son of Mofizur Rahman, both of Hajrakati village. They were cousins.

Local sources said Yasmin and Jisan went to the baor together to pick water lilies. At one point, one of them drowned and the other drowned while trying to rescue them.

Family members later rescued them and took them home, where they died.

Inspector Md Kamal Hossain, in-charge of Rajganj Police Investigation Centre, confirmed the incident and said police had been sent to the spot.

He said further legal action was under process.
