Cow-lifter beaten dead, cohort hurt at Kaliganj 

JHENAIDAH, Aug 22: One of the two unidentified suspected thieves who were caught by a mob while stealing a cow in Badurgachha Village of Kaliganj Upazila in the district has been killed in a mob lynching early Saturday. The other has been rescued in critical condition and admitted to the hospital. 

A widow named Nilufa Begum said that the two entered her house late at night. When she heard about it, she screamed and the villagers nearby chased and caught them. At that time, the agitated mob lynched the two. One died on the spot and the other was seriously injured. Their identities could not be ascertained.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station Kabir Hossain said that after receiving the information, the police quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The deceased’s body was recovered and sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police (Kaliganj Circle) Mahfuz Hossain said legal action is under process in this connection.
