Couple arrested with 817 tapentadol tablets in Naogaon

Police have arrested a husband and wife, identified as drug dealers, in Patnitala police station of Naogaon with 817 illegal tapentadol tablets.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Md Sirajul Islam, 40, son of deceased Erfan Ali, and his wife, Mst Dolly Khatun, 35, residents of Dewalkuri (Ramrampur) village in Patnitala upazila.

Acting on a tip-off police conducted a raid at their residence in the Dewalkuri area around 10:30 PM on Saturday (August 29). During a search of the house, 817 illegal tapentadol tablets were seized. Sirajul Islam and his wife Dolly Khatun were subsequently arrested on charges of drug dealing.

According to police, the arrested couple had been involved in wholesale drug dealing in the area for a long time and had previously been accused of drug-related activities.

Naogaon Police Superintendent Mohammad Tarikul Islam said, "special drives are continuing across the district as part of the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against drugs. “No one involved in drug dealing will be spared,” he said.

A case has been filed against the arrested couple under the Narcotics Control Act at Patnitala Police Station. Police said they would be sent to jail through the court on Sunday (August 30).
