British high commissioner meets Bangladesh’s state minister for foreign affairs

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

During the meeting, Cook congratulated Humayun Kabir on assuming office and expressed confidence that the Bangladesh-UK partnership would grow stronger in the coming days.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the deep historical ties and strong people-to-people connections between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. They discussed ways to further expand cooperation in trade and investment, strengthen long-term economic relations, and enhance cooperation in Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

They also exchanged views on increasing collaboration in other priority areas, including education, migration and mobility, skills development and security.

The state minister appreciated the UK’s continued support for the Rohingya refugees and called for Britain to maintain its role in international efforts to ensure their safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

The British high commissioner assured him that the UK would continue to play its leadership role on Myanmar-related issues at the United Nations Security Council and work to keep the Rohingya crisis high on the international agenda.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation on various bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
