
Bangladesh Bank under a Tk 3,000 crore refinancing scheme aimed at establishing an agriculture-based special economic zone in the northern region (Rajshahi and Rangpur) of the country.
Z M Babar Khan, Managing Director (Current Charge) of AB Bank, and AKM Saiduzzaman, Director of the Agricultural Credit Department-2 of Bangladesh Bank, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at the Bangladesh Bank head office.
Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended the signing ceremony as the chief guest, while Arief Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, attended as the special guest.
Zainal Abedin, Additional Director of the Agricultural Credit Department-2 of Bangladesh Bank; Iftekhar Enam Awal, DMD and Chief Business Officer of AB Bank; and other senior officials were also present at the event.
Under the agreement, AB Bank will provide loans to farmers in the northern region and agricultural entrepreneurs in the CMSME sector at affordable interest rates and on easy terms. Through this initiative, the bank will contribute to creating rural employment and ensuring food security across the country.
