Three killed in road mishaps at Tongi, Sherpur

Three people were killed and four injured in separate road accidents in Tongi of Gazipur District and Sherpur Upazila of Bogura District in two days.

TONGI, GAZIPUR: A passenger was killed and three others were injured after a battery-powered three-wheeler overturned while trying to avoid two dogs crossing a road in front of the A-One Polymer factory in the T&T area under Tongi East Police Station early Wednesday.

The deceased was Md Zainal Abedin, 45, son of Jabbar Ali of Nandail Upazila in Mymensingh District. He had lived with his family in Tongi’s Morkun Madhyapara area and worked at the canteen of the Sanofi Aventis pharmaceutical factory in Tongi.

Eyewitnesses said following the accident, Zainal, who was sitting in the front seat, was trapped underneath and seriously injured. Locals took him to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said the body was handed over to his family without an autopsy following a written request. Legal proceedings are underway.

SHERPUR, BOGURA: Two people were killed and another was injured when a truck overturned after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while it was being repaired beside the Dhaka-Bogura highway in the Mahipur area of Sherpur Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The deceased were Mamun Hossain, 35, son of Abdur Razzak Mondal of Islampur Harigrai area in Sherpur Upazila, and Hamza, 30, of Nandigram Upazila. The injured man’s identity was not immediately known.

Several people were repairing the truck when the unidentified vehicle hit it from the opposite direction, causing it to overturn and hit a road divider, trapping three people underneath, fire service officials said.

Fire fighters rescued one man alive and admitted him to the ICU to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. The other two were declared dead at the hospital. Police are trying to identify the vehicle involved in the accident.
