DGHS forms investigation committee against Dr. Jahangir Kabir

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has formed an investigation committee to look into allegations against Dr. Jahangir Kabir’s Health Revolution Limited following the death of a diabetes patient at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital.

The allegations stem from advice to stop insulin and instead follow a “keto diet” and take supplements.

The DGHS formed the committee on Thursday (September 3) following an application from the Department of Endocrinology at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. The information was confirmed by DGHS sources on Saturday (September 5).

Dr. Mohammad Monir-Uz-Zaman, Principal of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Professor of Medicine, has been appointed convener of the investigation committee, while Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Assistant Director (Hospital-1) of the DGHS, has been appointed member secretary.

The other members of the committee are Dr. M. A. Halim Khan, Associate Professor of Endocrinology at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Dr. Hasan Hafizur Rahman, Associate Professor of Medicine at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dr. Hurjahan Banu, Associate Professor of Endocrinology at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), and Dr. Azimunnnessa Shiuly, Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at BIRDEM Hospital.

A notice signed by Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Director of the Hospital and Clinics Branch of the DGHS, said the health authority had taken the allegation of a patient’s death after following advice to discontinue insulin and adopt a keto diet and take supplements into consideration and formed a six-member committee to investigate the incident.

The committee has been instructed to submit a report within 10 working days, along with a clear opinion on the allegations.

Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman confirmed the formation of the investigation committee.
