The government’s main priority is to ensure quality, affordable, reliable and meaningful connectivity rather than simply increasing the number of connections, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam said on Monday.

The minister made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 37th meeting of the Wireless Group (AWG-37) of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) as the chief guest.

The meeting was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital and was attended by APT delegates and experts from across the Asia-Pacific region. The AWG-37 meeting was chaired by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad Ul Bari.

The meeting will discuss wireless communications, spectrum management, emerging technologies, network management and regulatory issues, among other matters. Participants will also focus on formulating regional recommendations and strengthening cooperation among member states.
