Raw jute exports halted, but jute products shipped to 138 countries: Minister

Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Wednesday said the export of raw jute produced in Bangladesh currently remains suspended, while jute products are being exported to 138 countries around the world.

 “Currently, the export of jute produced in Bangladesh abroad is halted. Jute is exported from Bangladesh to 30 countries and jute products to 138 countries,” he said in reply to a scripted question from ruling BNP lawmaker Lutfur Rahman (Cox’s Bazar-3) in Parliament.

The Parliament session began at 3:30pm with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in the chair. The minister said the jute export destinations include China, Iran, Spain, Belgium, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, India, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Denmark, Switzerland, South Korea, Russia, Poland, Vietnam, Nepal, Tunisia, Thailand, Malaysia, Austria, France, Latvia, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

He said Bangladesh earned Tk 12,612.07 crore by exporting 19.25 lakh metric tonnes of raw jute and Tk 71,390.50 crore by exporting 70.69 lakh metric tonnes of jute products over the past 10 years.
