US President Donald Trump claimed the United States is winning the ongoing war with Iran and currently controls the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
He made the statements while speaking as the chief guest at a Republican midterm election campaign event in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday local time.
Addressing the gathering, Trump blamed the eco-friendly policies of previous administrations for rising living costs in the United States. He asserted that his administration successfully lowered prices for food and essential goods.
He stated that victory in the war with Iran will cause oil prices to drop significantly, adding that the US holds full control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The US President lightheartedly suggested renaming the vital waterway linking the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman as the "Trump Strait." He remarked with humor that Iranian leaders would surely appreciate the name change.
Commenting on regional dynamics, Trump noted that Iran maintained dominance in the Middle East over the past 51 years, but its influence has now ended.
