920 sacks of fertiliser seized from warehouse in Dinajpur

A total of 920 sacks of fertiliser were seized from a warehouse of an authorised fertiliser dealer in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur. A case has been filed against the dealer, Mozaharul Islam.

The fertiliser was seized during a joint raid conducted from Thursday afternoon to evening at a warehouse of the dealer, M/S Rony Traders, in Pakerhat area of Bochaganj upazila. The dealer Mozaharul Islam is currently absconding.

According to sources, Mozaharul Islam, owner of M/S Rony Traders, is a registered fertiliser dealer of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). He had allegedly stored additional fertiliser without approval and in violation of regulations.

Acting on a tip-off, the district and upazila administrations, along with the Upazila Agriculture Department, conducted the joint operation. During the raid, officials counted and seized a total of 920 sacks of fertiliser, including 260 sacks of MOP and 660 sacks of DAP fertiliser.

Kaharol Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Kamrul Zaman Sarker and District Administration Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Monowar Hossain conducted a mobile court during the operation. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ayan Farhan Shams and Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akter were also present.

After the operation, UNO Kamrul Zaman Sarker said regular monitoring and drives at dealers’ warehouses and sales centres would continue. The seized fertiliser would be distributed among farmers at government-fixed prices in accordance with existing rules and government directives.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akter said dealers had been repeatedly warned to follow the prescribed rules regarding the storage and sale of fertiliser. However, legal action was taken against the dealer for allegedly storing fertiliser without approval despite the instructions.
