Lawyer’s body found in Dhaka flat

Police recovered the body of a lawyer from his rented flat in the capital’s Lalbagh area on Saturday, with officers suspecting that he died two to three days ago.

The body was recovered around 11:30AM from a second-floor flat at 10/1, Lane 3 of Bowbazar in Shahidnagar, under Lalbagh Police Station.

A neighbouring tenant reportedly noticed a foul smell coming from the flat and went to check on Anwar, finding him dead inside. The tenant then alerted police.

Lalbagh police later went to the scene and began legal procedures. 

Members of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Crime Scene Unit also visited the flat.

Police said they initially suspect that deceased Mohammad Anwar Hossain died of a stroke, although the exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.

Anwar was an advocate at the Judge’s Court and had his chamber in Room 214 on the first floor of the Dhaka Bar Association Annex Building. He lived alone in the rented flat as a bachelor.

Lalbagh Police Station Officer in-Charge Mohammad Jamil Hossain said Anwar’s driving licence was in police custody and officers were verifying his identity and attempting to contact his family, who are believed to live in a village.

Police are conducting an inquest and other necessary legal procedures. The body is being prepared to be sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report, police said.
