Police-Magistracy Conference Calls for Faster Case Disposal

A police-magistracy conference in Dhaka on Saturday called for stronger coordination among courts, police and other agencies to ensure speedy disposal of cases and reduce litigants suffering.

Acting Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman chaired the conference, while Senior District and Sessions Judge Md Rafiqul Islam attended as chief guest.

The conference discussed expediting investigations, timely submission of charge sheets, medical and forensic reports, execution of arrest warrants and production of accused before courts.

Judge Rafiqul Islam directed investigators to ensure timely submission of inquest, seizure and post-mortem reports in murder cases. He also stressed strict compliance with legal procedures in recording statements and confessions under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The meeting also reviewed cases related to the anti-discrimination movement. Police were urged to complete investigations promptly and submit charge sheets in accordance with law.

Participants stressed proper seizure and preservation of digital evidence, including CCTV footage and mobile phone data. They also discussed delays in medical reports, irregular attendance of assistant public prosecutors and inadequate police support for mobile courts.

The participants said better coordination among the judiciary, police, investigation agencies, prisons and medical authorities would help expedite trials and significantly reduce the sufferings of litigants.
