The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a special drive to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae as part of a nationwide 'crash programme' to combat dengue.
DNCC Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Imrul Kayes led the operation at different locations in Ward 7 of Mirpur on Sunday.
During the drive, mosquito larvicide was sprayed in residential areas and nearby drains to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding. Public announcements were also made through loudspeakers to raise awareness among residents.
Speaking during the inspection, Brig Gen Imrul Kayes said there is no alternative to public awareness and keeping household surroundings clean to control dengue.
He warned that authorities would take strict legal action and impose fines if mosquito larvae are found or negligence in maintaining cleanliness is detected in the future.
The DNCC urged residents to regularly clean their homes, yards and surrounding areas to eliminate potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
