The National Citizen Party (NCP) has nominated Nasiruddin Patwari and Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan as its candidates for mayor of Dhaka South and Dhaka North city corporations respectively.
NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam announced the nominations at a meeting with potential councillor candidates from different wards of the two city corporations at the party office on Sunday afternoon.
The candidates will contest the elections with the Shapla symbol.
Nahid also instructed party leaders to identify potential councillor candidates, address ward-level civic problems, maintain regular contact with the families of July martyrs and injured protesters, and closely monitor what he described as subversive activities by fugitive Awami League leaders and activists.
The meeting was attended by Nasiruddin Patwari and Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, the NCP-backed potential mayoral candidates for Dhaka South and North respectively, Ariful Islam Adib, convener and senior joint convener of NCP Dhaka North, Ishaq Sarkar, convener of NCP Dhaka South, and other leaders of the party’s north and south city units.
