The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved filing a case against former Chattogram City Corporation Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin on allegations of acquiring assets worth Tk 13 crore 99 lakh 41 thousand 570, disproportionate to his known sources of income, through abuse of power and corrupt means.
ACC Deputy Director Md Aktarul Islam disclosed the development to reporters on Monday. According to ACC sources, the commission initiated an inquiry into allegations of abuse of power, tax evasion and acquisition of illegal assets by the former mayor. The inquiry found that, as of June 30, 2024, he had acquired assets worth Tk 13 crore 99 lakh 41 thousand 570 beyond his known sources of income.
Documents obtained during the inquiry showed that A J M Nasir Uddin possessed immovable assets valued at Tk 2 crore 30 lakh 18 thousand 910 and movable assets worth Tk 26 crore 38 lakh 1 thousand 285. His liabilities during the period stood at Tk 6 crore 18 lakh 97 thousand 8.
