Six remanded for alleged robbery plot posing as DB police

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed six people on a two-day remand in a case filed over an alleged attempt to commit robbery in Shahbagh while posing as Detective Branch (DB) police.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Aowlad Hossain Mohammad Jonayed passed the order after a hearing.
The accused are Jewel Mridha, Md Ramiz Talukdar, Jasim Talukdar alias Riaz, Md Rahman Howlader, Md Billal and Md Maruf.
Police said a DB team detained them on September 15 from a footpath opposite the Bangladesh Bar Council after receiving information that a group was preparing for a robbery.
A search of the suspects led to the recovery of a toy pistol, a toy magazine, a toy walkie-talkie, a handcuff and three jackets bearing the letters “DB”.
The case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station. The investigation officer sought seven days remand, alleging that the accused had been committing robbery and snatching in Dhaka by impersonating law-enforcement personnel.
