Abul Khair Group creates employment for 15,000 workers

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 17: Faridpur’s Razzaque Jute Industries, which had been closed for various reasons, has recently resumed operations under the ownership of Abul Khair Group. The products manufactured at the mill are now being exported.

Razzaque Jute Industries is not the only mill that Abul Khair Group has reopened. The group has also resumed operations at several other closed jute mills, including Dahmashi Jute Industries and Faridpur Jute Fibres in Faridpur, and Kushtia Jute Industries in Kushtia. All four factories are now producing jute products under Abul Khair Group.

According to sources, Abul Khair Group has set a target of exporting 80,000 tonnes of jute yarn and other jute products annually from these mills. The group is working towards an export target of around Tk 15,000 crore from jute yarn and jute products by December 2026.

The products are being exported to Turkey, China and other countries.

Sheikh Shabab Ahmed, head of corporate affairs and legal at Abul Khair Group, said, “The jute products business is capital-intensive. 

Many jute mills in the private sector are currently closed. Therefore, instead of setting up new factories, we decided to work with existing closed mills. As part of our recent entry into the jute business, we have reopened four closed jute mills in the private sector. 

This has created employment for 15,000 people across the four factories. In addition, Abul Khair Group has applied to take over three to four closed jute mills owned by the government.”

Sheikh Shabab Ahmed further said, “We are working to produce higher-value, value-added jute products in the future.”

He also said that Bangladeshi jute is of high quality and that there is a market for these environmentally friendly products.

“That is why our organisation has decided to invest in jute products. We believe this investment will contribute, even indirectly, to improving the livelihoods of jute farmers,” he said.
