Chattogram police step up efforts to prevent rumours

Chattogram district police have taken steps to identify and prevent social media rumours before they spread, particularly ahead of Durga Puja.

The decision was made at an online meeting on Tuesday, chaired by District Police Superintendent Md Masud Alam.

Police were instructed to verify the source, timing and context of viral photos, videos and posts, and check whether old or unrelated content was being presented as new incidents.

Special emphasis was placed on monitoring content related to Durga Puja, religious harmony and law and order. Content that could trigger communal tension will be given priority for verification.

Police were also instructed to quickly disseminate accurate information and preserve relevant links, screenshots and account details for possible legal action.

The district police urged people not to share unverified information and stressed coordination among police units to counter misinformation quickly.
