Myanmar keen to improve ties with Bangladesh

Myanmar is interested in improving relations with Bangladesh, with discussions focusing on maritime trade, transport and the resumption of bilateral talks.

Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh U Kyaw Soe Moe held a meeting with Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral S M Moniruzzaman at the port authority's One Stop Building on Friday.

The Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka disclosed the information on Friday.

During the meeting, they discussed maritime trade and transport between the two countries, applicable tax rates on imported goods and the resumption of suspended bilateral discussions.

They also discussed mutual cooperation to improve Bangladesh-Myanmar relations.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador and the CPA chairman exchanged commemorative gifts as a gesture of goodwill.

Later, the ambassador visited Chattogram Port at the invitation of the port authority and inspected its operations and management activities.

Myanmar has recently also expressed interest in expanding cross-border trade with Bangladesh and restoring maritime connectivity between Chattogram Port and Myanmar's Yangon and Sittwe ports.
